About Pau D’arco: Handroanthus impetiginosus, pink lapacho or pink trumpet tree is a native Bignoniaceae tree of America, distributed from northern Mexico south to northern Argentina. Pau d’arco translates as “low tree”. The inner bark is dried, shredded, and then boiled. Pau d’arco is a key ingredient in the tribal medicine in the Amazon rainforest. It contains compounds that protect against tropical diseases, specifically malaria, schistosomiasis, and tropical fevers. The herb is added to ointments to help with psoriasis and taken orally to relieve ulcers.
